Programs and examples in this video

These are separate programs with different service areas and rules. Amounts are examples, not a quote or guaranteed net savings. Rates, equipment, ownership, available funding, and program terms need review.

  • Intelligent Octopus for Home Batteries ↗, offered by Texas electricity provider Octopus Energy: $20 per 5 kWh each month for eligible connected Enphase or SolarEdge systems. The 40 kWh example equals $160/month in gross bill credits. An eligible Octopus plan and dispatch participation are required; backup reserve and electricity-plan costs matter.
  • Austin Energy Power Partner Battery ↗: $500 rebate per qualifying new battery system, plus performance payments. Performance payments vary with system size, backup reserve, and participation. Eligible customer-owned batteries only; solar is not required.
  • CPS Energy My Battery Rewards ↗: $10 bill credit per qualifying event for eligible residential customers with approved interconnection and successful participation.

Examples checked October 14, 2026. We confirm current terms and home eligibility before presenting a proposal.

THE BATTERY-FIRST PATH

Start with the outage.
Build around your home.

A useful backup plan begins with the circuits you care about, the time you want them supported, and the electrical conditions at your property.

01

Protect selected essentials

Plan around refrigeration, lights, internet, home-office equipment, medical equipment, well pumps, or other priority circuits.

02

Skip the fuel routine

A home battery avoids generator refueling, engine noise, exhaust, and manual startup. Transfer behavior varies by system design.

03

Review your rate plan

Some electricity plans can support scheduled charging or peak-rate management. We check the actual plan before discussing savings.

ONE STORED CHARGE / OR A WAY TO RECHARGE

Battery first.
Solar when it earns its place.

A battery holds a limited amount of energy. If your goal is a few hours or overnight support, battery-only may fit. If your goal is a longer outage, solar can provide a daytime recharge source when the system, weather, and available sunlight allow it.

SOLAR + BATTERYBuilt for longer resilience
  • Solar can recharge the battery during daylight
  • Useful when extended-outage support is the goal
  • Runtime still depends on design, loads, and weather

WHAT CHANGED IN TEXAS

Fewer local rulebooks.
Same professional standards.

Effective September 1, 2025, Texas limited most municipalities from creating separate installation and inspection rules for qualifying residential energy backup systems. Municipally owned utilities retain authority in their service areas.

Licensed electrical work, applicable codes, permits, utility requirements, and individual project review still apply. The law is a regulatory change, not a rebate or guaranteed approval.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Know what a battery does.
And what it does not.

Do I need solar to install a home battery?

No. Battery-only systems are currently available for qualifying Texas homes. Solar becomes relevant when you want a daytime recharge source during a longer outage.

Will one battery power my whole house?

That depends on usable battery capacity, system output, starting loads, and what runs at the same time. Many plans begin with selected essentials. Large heating, cooling, water-heating, cooking, pumping, or EV loads may require more capacity or a different design.

How long will the battery last?

Runtime is determined by stored capacity and the loads drawing from it. We use your priorities and electric bill to prepare a useful estimate instead of promising a generic number.

Will charging at night lower my bill?

It can help on some compatible rate plans when off-peak electricity is sufficiently cheaper. It is not automatic. We review the rate plan, charging losses, usage, and system cost before discussing potential savings.
